FSSAI Registration

FSSAI registration is required for all small food business operator and when we say small food business operator it  means any person or entity who:

  • a person who is in the business of manufacturing or selling food by themselves, such as a small retailer, hawker, temporary stall holder, etc.
  • Distributes foods at any religious or social gathering except a caterer
  • Other food businesses that include small-scale, cottage or such other industries that are in the food business.

Small food business operators are needed to obtain a Food safety and standards registration by submitting an application for registration in Form A. Upon submission of an FSSAI registration application, the will  be a verification by the authority and on that basis the registration will be given or application will be rejected in writing within 7 days of receipt of an application . FSSAI registration certificate contains all the details regarding registration and a photo of the applicant. The certificate is to display all the time at the place of food business while carrying on the food business.

FSSAI License

Any person or entity that does not comes in the category of the petty food business operator is required to get an FSSAI license for conducting a food business in India. FSSAI license is classified into two types that is State FSSAI License and Central FSSAI License. Based on the size and nature of the business, the licensing authority will be different. Large food manufacturer, processors, transporters and importers of food products are required to get a central FSSAI license whereas state FSSAI license is required by the medium-sized food manufacturers, processor, and transporters.The fee and procedure for obtaining an FSSAI license are more expensive when compared to an FSSAI registration.

FSSAI license application is to be made using a Form B and should be submitted to the Concerned Licensing Authority along with the necessary self-attested declaration, documents, affidavit, and annexures as Advice.FSSAI license is granted for a period of 1 to 5 years as a request by the food business operator. The fee that would be applicable for obtaining FSSAI license for more years can be higher. If registration is obtained for one or two years, then the license can be renewed by making an application, no later than 30 days prior to the expiry date of the FSSAI license.
